DESCRIPTION:

Peterson Pacific Corp. is an Oregon based Manufacturing Corporation established in 1981.  In 2007 Peterson Pacific was purchased by Astec Industries Inc.  Peterson manufactures heavy equipment, is focused on innovation, and continuously developing new machines for the forestry and recycling markets.  Peterson's equipment includes, but is not limited to; horizontal grinders, disc and drum chippers, infield chain flail debarkers, blower trucks, etc. Peterson also offers a line of wear parts for our competitive market machines, including, but not limited to grinder wear plates, grates, bits, and anvils, marketed through our competitive parts website, www.wearpartsresource.com.

Promotes/sells/secures orders from existing customers and prospective customers through a relationship-based approach for Peterson Parts Sales Department.  Demonstrates products and services to existing/potential customers and assists them in selecting those best suited to their needs.  This position will exclusively work at developing Peterson's competitive wear parts business in the assigned territory.  Incumbent will provides advice and expertise to customers on competitive spare part programs and stock parts inventory. Assists customers to ensure equipment is operating safely and productively while coordinating activities with Peterson sales staff, and Peterson parts personnel.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

PARTS SALES REPRESENTATIVE

  • Establishes, develops and maintains business relationships with prospective customers in the assigned territory/market segment.
  • Generate a book of business growing the competitive wear parts business of Peterson's parts sales department incrementally year over year.
  • Plans and organizes personal sales strategy and goals by maximizing the Return on Time Investment for the territory/segment aligning goals with Competitive parts goals.
  • Supports promotion of Peterson machines by Peterson and sales personnel.
  • Makes telephone calls and in-person visits, presentations, and training to prospective customers; on competitive parts and service for Peterson direct customers with appropriate follow up and follow through as needed.
  • Writes timely reports on customer needs, problems, interests, competitive activities, and potential for new products and services.
  • Coordinates all sales activities with factory; Parts Sales Manager, and Territory Sales Managers, as necessary.
  • Travels customarily and regularly throughout territory including frequent weeklong stays. 75-85% travel required.

  • Proficient in promoting safe and healthy work environment.
  • Adheres to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
  • Wears personal protective equipment in accordance with training guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness in designated workspace by practicing 6S principles to reduce safety risks.
  • Attend a weekly department safety meeting.

QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                                

Experience/Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Peterson and Competitive machines, their application, safe and productive operation, and spare parts.
  • Minimum 6+ years' experience in parts sales for the heavy manufacturing industry; heavy equipment parts, troubleshooting; and repairs or demonstrated abilities through on-the-job training or education.
  • Minimum 3 years customer service and working with parts, service, and operations manuals.  
  • Ability to apply concepts such as basic math skills, fractions, micrometers, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations, and able to convert decimals into inches.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and Internet.

Education

  • Associate of Art's degree (A.A.) from two-year College or similar degree from a technical school preferred; or two to three years related experience and/or training working at a machining center; or equivalent combination of education and experience equivalent as deemed sufficient by management.

  • Must be a quick learner. Many parts issues are unique to the heavy equipment being manufactured.
  • Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Windows 7, Internet, and Microsoft CRM package.
  • Flexible and adaptable in coping with pressures, deadlines, and rapidly changing situations.
  • Continue to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.
